Background
Noluthando Training Industries is a Christian organisation dedicated to the development of our communities through empowerment programmes that aimed at supporting them in all aspects of life.
Many of the poorest inhabitants of the Western Cape live in semi-formal settlements on the outskirts of Cape Town. Formal housing is limited and the majority of people live in make-shift housing structures or shacks where living conditions are at best sub-standard and there is little in the way of infrastructure including electricity and sanitation. Many people living within these settlements are poorly educated and unskilled, resulting in widespread unemployment and poverty.
Situated in the heart of Khayelitsha, one of the biggest semi-formal settlements on the Cape Flats, Noluthando Training Institute provides skills training and economic development opportunities to people living in the area.

Programmes offered
Two separate but closely linked programmes are provided by NTI to ensure that participants receive skills training followed by support in securing employment. These activities operate within one management structure and human resources are shared wherever possible. All activities of the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) and Job Placement Centre (JPC) are managed by a full-time Centre Manager who reports directly to the Board of Directors.
All activities of the VTC and JPC are monitored by the Centre Manager. Instructors at the NTI as well as external service providers submit weekly activity reports to the Centre Manager and participate in monthly staff meetings. The Training Manager randomly visits and sits in on training courses and invites independent assessors from relevant sectors to evaluate the quality of training as well as the progress made by students during the course of the training programmes.
